What's happening in the Shed?
Wells-next-the-Sea Men's Shed
Once upon a time there was some scrap pallet wood lying around. One of our Shedders, with too much time on his hands, made it into a Fairy Door. These miniature doors are secured to the bottom of trees so the Fairies can come and go so that everyone can live happily ever after........

Our Shedders have been busy making and restoring stuff - current projects include more duck nesting houses for the Wildfowlers Pond at Blakeney, Wood Store (essential for storing wood to help manage the energy crisis!), the ever popular bird boxes, garden wishing well, several planters, picket fences, compost bins and restoring the Great Snoring Village notice board. Here's a window box proudly set on a sill in London:
Each month we submit copy for The Quay Community Magazine which is distributed around Wells and district - this is our entry for March 2023
The Shedders have been busy this last month despite the cold winter weather. Whilst the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway has been closed for winter we have been doing some extreme landscaping on the site in support of our hosts. We have cleared an area near the entrance and re-engineered the landscaping all to improve car parking facilities for the disabled in time for the upcoming season. This is part of ongoing support the Shedders are giving to the WWLR to enhance the site for visitors. This landscaping has opened up an area where we can compost and grow some garden herbs using our organic compost. We are dispersing wild flower seeds too. Hopefully it will also attract some more wildlife. We know this works as we have now have a resident Barn Owl who has taken a liking to some strategically placed posts under our Portakabin lean to. Having consulted with the Hawk & Owl Trust in Scunthorpe we are going to build a suitable nesting box. It may be too late for this year so fingers crossed for next winter. We also intend to add some Swift nesting boxes too in the hope they will make the Shed their home. With Spring on its way we have constructed a range of garden items and furniture for sale. We have an Arbour, various planters (which can be painted to order), trugs, garden tables and chairs and bird boxes. We have also got a limited number of garden tables and chairs from the outdoor terrace at The Bowling Green. These are currently being refreshed and should be available shortly. We also take commissions if you have specific requirements. In line with our Eco policies all these items are made from recycled materials. So, as always, if you’d like more information about us or these gardening items please visit us or our website at http:www.wellsnexttheseamensshed.weebly.com , email us at [email protected] or pop along on any Wednesday. Congratulations on your first woodwork build Jean. Jean is the latest woman to join the Shed and has created a lovely planter ready for painting in preparation of her celebration of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in June. We now have 3 women members and it's worth reminding everyone that we have an open policy to membership. The only limitation is you must be 18 years old. So come on Ladies come and have a go at woodwork, training and guidance will be provided - be inspired by Jean who has mastered the use of our power tools, including the chop saw, to build this smart planter from scratch in a day: Now ready to paint and plant up, all made from recycled pallet wood.
