What's happening in the Shed?
Wells-next-the-Sea Men's Shed
Hi everyone,
We've had a busy couple of days but here are the highlights. Unfortunately, Jon from Kings Lynn Mens Shed couldn't make our meeting ahead of the AGM so we hope to catch up sometime later. A good turnout for the AGM and a full Committee was elected - A Chairman, Secretary, 2 x Co Treasurers, Health & Safety Officer, A Website & Media Officer and a floating Committee member - great stuff and well volunteered guys A Constitution was proposed and agreed. A draft Leasing Agreement between the Group and the WCHT was proposed and will be work in progress. So we can now approach the Bank to open an account. Starting to take shape now. A new design for the Shed roof was agreed and estimates for the lifting and replacement are expected shortly. Subsequent to the AGM we formally joined the UK Mens Shed Association - should be a useful resource through the next phase. thats all folks for now, as always comments are welcome.

Positive meeting yesterday focusing on practical ideas to accelerate the Shed start up. To address the leaking roof, a new roof design was proposed along with a cash injection financial plan that would enable work to commence sooner rather than later. Drawings and full costing will be proposed for sign off at the next weekly meeting (28th Nov). Hopefully, we can establish a working party to remove the old roof, raise the height of the walls and replace the roof to optimise the light.
In parallel, the Wells Community Hospital Trust will also accelerate the drafting of the Lease Agreement, so everything can be synchronised and work on the re-roofing can begin. Slowly, slowly catch a monkey! We’re getting there. Next up is Tuesday 27th Nov when we welcome Jon from the Kings Lynn Men’s Shed to talk to us about their experiences to date. A great opportunity for us to ask questions from someone who's ‘got the T-shirt’! Hi everyone, here's the announcement about the upcoming Inaugural AGM so that we may officially form a working Committee and formally get the Shed underway, please do your best to attend, everyone welcome, thanks

Firstly, we wanted to express our thanks and appreciation to the Wells Community Hospital General Manager and her staff for agreeing to host our meetings and for providing a venue for us to do ‘shedding”! Very many thanks all at the WCHT.
We can report that we now have enough nominees to form a Committee. Thank you to all those who put their names forward - well volunteered! However, before we can get started we have to formally set up the project. So an inaugural AGM has been arranged (28th Nov, 10.30-12.00) to confirm these appointments. Once agreed we can then go ahead and draft a Constitution and open a bank account etc. Great progress please spread the word about this meeting. Many thanks too to all those Wells retailers and outlets that have generously provided us with essentials to help us get started - I will post a note of appreciation on our ‘Partners & Sponsors’ website page. Very generous gestures, thank you. Lastly for now, upcoming dates for your calendars - 21st Nov - Next steps meeting 27th Nov - Speech and Q&A from Jon Chairman Kings Lynn Mens’s Shed 28th Nov - Inaugural AGM to officially appoint The Committee … all comments welcome, that’s all folks for now Just a reminder that the objective of the next Shedders meeting on Nov 14th will be to elect officers to form a Committee for the Wells-next-the-Sea Men’s Shed. Some nominations have been made but we still need to appoint members before we can start the process of working on the Shed and kitting it out to be fit for purpose. If you’d like to be nominated for a role on the Committee please attend this meeting. Also there will be a number of support roles - Health & Safety, Inventory etc etc
Don’t forgot there is a lot of support and resources for getting started from the UK Men’s Shed Association. See you there. Meant to say, if anyone out there has any old or no longer required tools and would like to donate them to a good cause, we would be delighted to take them off your hands. Any item(s) would be considered. At the moment we do not have any tools for the Shed so all donations would be gratefully received.
Just drop us a line, either in the comments section below, or via our Contact Us page. Thank you in advance. Positive meeting today with a good turn out. Here's some of the highlights:
1. Nominees for the Treasurers Committee role have been proposed (as a Joint Role). These guys will now approach the local Bank to open a Community Account. We have also nominated a Media and Communications Officer to help spread the word. 2. A materials only estimate for the roof replacement has been presented - coming in at just under £1000. 3. John, Chairman of the recently opened Kings Lynn Mens Shed will be invited to come and chat to us to share their experience of setting up a Shed - proposed date is Tuesday 27th Nov 2-4pm at the Wells Community Hospital - everyone welcome. 4. This website will be refreshed with this Blog aimed at news and progress of the development of the Shed. Also a 'call' for tools. 5. An independent Reporter attended the meeting to provide some copy for The Lynn News - should help give us some welcome publicity. ... all comments are welcome, that's all folks for now |
